When a New York City teenager falls ill with a devastating disease, she must leave everything she loves to move with her mother to family land in Latvia. In these remote woods, Laila soon discovers she’s part of a world of ancient magic and family secrets — one that connects her to a wolf that stalks her nightly. To save the wolf - and herself - Laila must untangle the mysteries that surround her. But is Laila up for such a dangerous mission?

Winner of the George RR Martin Screenwriting Award, BECAUSE MAYBE is a coming-of-age fantasy film. Jocelyn is thrilled to have the opportunity to direct BECAUSE MAYBE in Latvia in summer 2024 as her first feature, with George RR Martin as an Executive Producer. The project was recently selected for the International Financing Forum at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and for Spotlight Latvia in Los Angeles.

BECAUSE MAYBE is a exciting, funny, heartfelt, and powerful story of first love, fighting for what your believe in, and the good that ordinary people can do when faced with extraordinary circumstances. In addition to entertaining audiences, Jocelyn hopes that BECAUSE MAYBE will help shine a light on her two passions - the need to protect wolves and a greater awareness around auto-immune disease.
